“Kyle Strickler Wins The Modified Mafia Feature Event”
“Todd Walls Wins The PA Micro Midget Feature Event”

By Brent Hottle
Winchester(VA)-With two separate series making visits to the speedway on this beautiful May
Saturday, fans were sure to get to see some action on the track. The Modified Mafia Series and PA
Micro Midget Series would both invade the speedway, along with our Hobby Stock and SCDRA divisions.

We would see plenty of on track action during the heats for all divisions. A “Climb to the Pole”
style dash would be run for the Modified Mafia. The final pair (Kyle Strickler and Austin Holcombe)
would put on a fierce battle to determine the pole sitter for the thirty lap main event. Kyle
Strickler would win the battle and earn the pole starting position. Once we pause for our weekly
Invocation and playing of our National Anthem, it would now be time for the feature events.

The first feature for the night would be for the PA Micro Midgets. Pole sitter Todd Walls would get
a great holeshot at the initial start to the twenty-five lap event. It would be all for nothing
though as Brady Wilt would spin in turn four. We would see a second caution after the restart as
five cars would spin in turn four resulting in a third try. This time Walls would once again get a
great start and lead the first lap over Matt Kiefert and Ryan Rost. Walls would begin to pull away
slightly from Kiefert over the next few laps, until Kiefert started to reel in Walls on the sixth
lap.
The leaders would begin to navigate lap traffic on lap eleven. This would allow Justin Care to move
around Rost for the third position. Kiefert would go to the high side of Walls and lead the
fifteenth lap by a few inches. Kiefert would pull ahead of Walls to solidly lead the sixteenth lap.
Walls wasn’t going to go away easily as he started to chase the new leader. Walls would look to the
low side of Kiefert as the pair raced into turn three on the twentieth lap. Walls would now retake
the lead as they raced to finish the twenty first lap. Todd Walls would go on to win the feature
event. Matt Kiefert and Justin Care would round out the top three.

Next it would be time for the Modified Mafia UMP Modified feature event. Before the race started we
would see the field lineup into a four wide salute to the fans. Once the line up was back to normal
it would be time for the green flag to drop. It would be a battle of the number 8’s as we watched
Kyle Strickler and Austin Holcombe pickup where they left off during the “Climb to the Pole” and
race side by side into turn one. Just as the pair was about to complete the first lap, the red flag
would come out quickly as Jeff Solinger would take a wild flipping ride going into turn three and
collecting two other cars in the process. Thankfully all of the safety equipment did its job as
Solinger would climb from his machine under his own power. After the restart Strickler would lead
lap one just before Sam Lilly would spin in turn four to bring out the caution. The field would
complete the second lap just before the caution would fly once again on lap three for debris on the
front straightaway. On the next restart Strickler would continue to lead as Holcombe would find
himself holding off a challenging Michael Altobelli for the second position.

This battle would go on for two laps until Holcombe pulled ahead of Altobelli by the end of the
sixth lap. Ryan Toole would slow to a stop at the top of turn three to bring out the fourth caution
of the night. Strickler would continue to show his strength and pull away from the field after the
restart. It would be erased once again as Owen Lacey would spin in turn four on lap eleven.
After the next restart we would see a battle for the second position once again between Holcombe
and Altobelli as the pair raced side by side until Holcombe spun in turn two while battling for the
second position. The field would go back to green for one more lap, before slowing once again as
Sam Lillly slowed to a stop on the front straightaway to bring out the caution. Strickler would
quickly begin to pull away from the field after the restart. Ty Rhoades would now move around
Altobelli for the second position. Strickler would pull out to a full straight away lead over the
field by lap twenty-two. Owen Lacey would spin once again, only this time in turn two, to bring out
the final caution of the thirty lap event. Kyle Strickler would go on to sweep the night by setting
fast time, winning the “Climb to the Pole”, and taking the feature win in his first visit to the
speedway. Ty Rhoades and Michale Altobelli would round out the top three.

The Hobby Stock division would now pull on to the speedway. Polesitter Jason Wilkins would lead lap
one over Billy Sonner Jr and Justin Hottle. Richie Gibson III would spin in turn four and bring out
the only caution of the fifteen lap event. There would be no change in the top three after the
restart as Jason Wilkins would cruise to the feature win. Billy Sonner Jr and Justin Hottle would
round out the top three.

The final feature for the night would be for the SCDRA division. Allen Griffith would lead lap one
over Robbie Carroll and Nick McDaniel. McDaniel would challenge Carroll for the second position on
the third lap. McDaniel would take over the second position as the field completed the fourth lap.
He would now set his sights on Griffith for the lead. McDaniel would look to the low side out of
turn two on the eighth lap, but would be unable to make a pass for the lead. He would try the same
thing once again on the eleventh lap, but would be once again unsuccessful. The trio would engage
in a high speed game of cat and mouse during the final laps of the event. McDaniel would make a
last lap bid for the lead on the fourteenth lap as the leaders raced out of turn four. McDaniel
would spin coming out of turn four while battling for the lead. Allen Griffith would take the
feature win as Robbe Carroll and Shawn Payne rounded out the top three.

We want to thank everyone for attending this past week's events. It was another great night of
racing. We look forward to seeing everyone back this coming Saturday Night. We will be hosting the
SCDRA make up feature event this coming weekend.
