Winchester  Speedway’s Appalachian Mountain Late Model Speed Weeks Belongs to Rick Eckert

 

York PA’S Rick Eckert claimed the 50 lap Appalachian Mountain Speed Weeks $5000 to win show on Monday June 7, 2010 at The Winchester Speedway in Winchester VA. Other winners included Mike Rose and Josh Wilkins

 

Forty Eight Late Models checked into the pit area for Monday Nights 50 lap Appalachian Mountain Late Model Speed Weeks show and it was Rick Eckert picking up the $5000 check.Eckert topped defending WOO Series Champion Josh Richards, while Jason Covert was third, Jimmy Mars was fourth and rounding out the top five was Keith Jackson.  In time trial action D.J. Myers set a new track record of 14.910. Heat race wins went to Ronnie Dehaven, Josh Richards, Jason Covert and Andy Anderson

The B-Mains were won by Gary Stuhler and Mike Lupfer

 

Eckert and Dehaven would lead the field to the drop of the green as caution would fly on the initial start resetting the field. Field reset seen Eckert take the top spot with Richards falling into second. Caution flew on lap fifteen to reset the field with Eckert, Richards and Covert. The trio would lead the way and work thru lapped traffic as caution would fly again on lap twenty four for  Bo Feathers. Eckert once again leading the field would see another caution fly again on lap thirty for a slow moving David Williams. Eckert proved to have the stronger car as he was  pulling away from Richards  as caution would fly again on lap thirty-nine. Eckert would use the restart to his advantage as the open track with lapped traffic in the rear as a momentum builder over the final circuits. Eckert would claim the win, Richards second, Covert,Mars, Jackson, Sites, Frye, Hills, Plessinger and JT Specnce would round out the top ten.

 

The fifteen lap Pure Stock main seen Mike Rose pick up his first win of the season over Micheal Carter, Danny Sullivan, James Gray and Terry Staton. The fifteen lap U-Car main event seen Josh Wilkins pick up another win of the season with Kevin Oates second, Sean Williams, Dave Alley and Jeff Wilkins rounding out the top five.
