Dehaven, Feathers, Bennett,Sonner, & Wilkins Victorious in Winchester Opener

 

Winchester Speedway opened the gates to kick off the 2010 season on Saturday night March 27, 2010 with a stellar field of 117 cars for all 5 divisions. The fans and drivers braved the cold temperatures to witness the revealing of Greg Gunter’s Winchester Speedway. And what a show they got.

 

The Gasoline Alley Late Model division had 19 cars checked into the pit area for there 25 lap main event. Ronnie Dehaven would lead the field with Jonathan Dehaven a close second. Third place runner DJ Myers would apply pressure to Jonathan  Dehaven making the pass on lap 7 to take second and set his sights on Ronnie Dehaven. Myers not able to make the pass would fade as Jonathan Dehaven would make the move on Myers for second. Jonathan took second away on lap twenty –four but time would run out as Winchester VA’s Ronnie Dehaven would take the victory. Jonathan Dehaven ended up second, DJ Myers third, Bo Feathers fourth and rounding out the top five was Andy Anderson. Heat race wins went to Jonathan Dehaven, & DJ Myers.

 

In The Eagle School Auto Parts Limited Late Models twenty-seven cars would attempt to qualify for the twenty four car starting field. Trevor Feathers would jump to the lead on the start and never looked back as he took a convincing win in the fifteen lap main. Third staring Lamb tries a bid on lap two only to come to a stop with mechanical problems handing second to Quade. Quade would try several attempts on Feathers but was unable to make the move. A caution on lap ten tightened the field as third running Kane would try Quade but could not make it stick. Feathers would go onto win, with Quade second, Kane third, Painter fourth and rounding out the top five was Holliday. Heat race wins went to Feathers, Quade and Lamb.

 

The Niningers Tire & Auto Pure Stocks  had 26 cars and seen Mike Bennett take the win. Terry Staton took the lead with Bennett glued to his bumper. The two battled for the first six circuits with Bennett making the move on lap seven over Staton.  Then the race was between Staton and Kenney for second. Kenney made the move on lap ten to take the second spot and set his sights on Bennett. A caution on lap twelve closed the field and Kenney tried everything on Bennett but came up short. Bennett would claim the victory with Kenney second, Staton third, Matt Kerns fourth and coming home fifth was James Gray. Heat race wins went to Staton, Bennett, and Franklin

 

In the Dehavens Well Drilling 4 Cylinders 16 cars checked in and it was Billy Sonner taking the win.  Mark Diggs would take second, third Chuck Johnson, fourth Tinsman and rounding out the top five was Scott Mccartney. Heat race wins went to Johnson and Sonner.

 

The Finish Line U-Cars had 29 cars checked in to fill the twenty four car field.  It was Kevin Oates taking the lead on lap one only to be passed on lap two by Josh Wilkins. Oates would suffer problems on lap seven to move Bloomquist into second. Josh Wilkins would take the win, second to Bloomquist, third Plaugher, fourth Johnson and fifth went to Ed ward Bloomquist. Heat race wins went to  Josh Wilkins, Oates and Jeff Wilkins.

 

Join us next Saturday April 2 as the Easter Bunny will be on hand to give all children under 7 goodies along with a Easter Egg Hunt behind the grandstand area at 6:00pm On the schedule for April 2 is The Potomac/ Winchester Pure Stock Challenge paying $500 to win along with Late Models, Limited Late Models , Pure Stocks, 4 Cylinders and U-cars.
